How unemployment rose in Spain during the last decade

Unemployment is very high in Spain, although it has important geographical differences. As an exercise, I produced a piece illustrating the huge divide between the north and the south.

This small graphic was made in an evening and it was inspired by a previous chart I did. It features a strong annotation layer, made with the help of Adam Pearce’s SwoopyDrag.

Writing this I learnt a lot about managing states and transitions with D3. You can switch to reorder the bars, and compare which province had a higher unemployment in the last decade.
